Day 1 | 30th of July 2010 | Friday

30th July, 13:00 hours, Malaysian time exactly, marked a great day in Taylor’s University College Lakeside Campus history. Its very own TLCMUN officially opened the First Annual Session of Model United Nations Conference. The weather was cool and atmosphere exciting as hundreds of Secondary and University students descended to the beautiful Taylor’s Lakeside Campus’ grounds. The registration booth was crowded with delegates and Chairs as they collected their name tags and door gifts.

The opening ceremony was held in LT12; a beautiful lecture theatre with a breathtaking view of the ‘Taylors Lake’. The conference was officially opened and swung into motion by her honourable Secretary General, TLCMUN’s very own, Audrey Ser. Also to officiate the opening of the conference were speeches by TLCMUN’s teacher advisor Mr. Lai Mun Onn, the keynote speaker for the day Mr. Rahul Ramachandran, and performances by the Taylor’s Lakeside Campus Symphony Band.

After the opening ceremony, the large group of delegates attending the conference went into their respective committees namely Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL) and the Security Council (SC).

The first day involved the delegates introducing their countries as well as giving their stance on the topics at hand. After that, lobbying sessions were under way. These sessions allowed the delegates to come up with draft resolutions which were later sent to the Approval Panel, consisting of the Secretary General and other Advisors, for approval.

Day 2 | 31st of July 2010 | Saturday

31st July, buzzed at the Taylors Lakeside campus, the voices of several delegates, challenging, amending, boycotting, rejecting, passing and basically debating the draft resolutions.

This went on throughout the day. Although the delegates did take a breather from the intense debating sessions for lunch breaks, but they were right back to tearing though the resolutions after the breaks. A few were passed from all committees on the same day; others were pushed forward for discussion on the next day.

Day 3 | 1st of August 2010 | Sunday

The next day, the sessions in the respective committees, i.e. ECOSOC, SPECPOL and Security Council continued from where it was left off at the end of the second day until all resolutions were debated amongst the delegates and chairs. It was the last day of the conference, which marked the end of the debating sessions where some resolutions had been passed while others rejected.

As the sessions neared to completion, the organizers prepared for the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony started off with a speech by the keynote speaker, Dr. Markus Petsche, a senior lecturer from Taylor’s Law School. The closing ceremony also featured short speeches from various parties including the Head of Administrative Staff, Public Relations Director, Chairs, Deputy Chairs, and school representatives.

Certificates and souvenirs were then presented to teacher advisors, the Chairs, and the delegates by Dr. Markus Petsche, TLCMUN’s Teacher Advisor Mr. Lai Mun Onn, and the Secretary General Audrey Ser respectively, to recognize the best speakers, most passionate and most diplomatic delegates, as well as the others’ participation in the conference.

The closing ceremony ended with a heartfelt speech by the Secretary General, who also brought down her gavel to officiate the closing of the TLCMUN conference 2010.

The delegates were guided to the location where the photo-taking session was to take place.

For all who attended the TLCMUN conference 2010, it will be agreed that the youth present at the conference surely rocked the house down. From basic facts to overall passion for topics to impeccable communication skills, this was a conference to be remembered.

Bravo to TLCMUN for organizing such a memorable event; defined by the overflowing supply of yummy cupcakes and food, the beautiful sceneries, and the overall ‘on-point’ organization.
