THMUNC and HELPMUNC 2010

Dear all,

Firstly, this is open to anyone and everyone at Taylor's Lakeside Campus. Participate and see if you like it, then join the club if you wish.

We are very delighted to inform you that the first 2 events - conferences to start off TLCMUN has arrived. The first conference is one that I would advice for all of you to attend as it is a mock conference in which all others there would be inexperienced in MUN just as you are. Do excuse us if you have experience in MUN. Anyhow, the mock conference is deemed to give you a feel of what MUN is really all about . It is basically a trial run of a conference which usually runs for 3 days but in this case, it is crashed into a few hours in one day.

As far as I am concerned, you would not get any chance of having a mock conference before attending a real conference anywhere else. Usually newbies, when I was one, there was no such thing as a mock conference, you just attend the conference, be it embarrassed or having made mistakes, we learn it there. So I would really push for all of you to take this opportunity to attend this mock conference. This is so that you would know what it is all about and whether or not you would want to take MUN further in your years.

Enough said. Here are the details for the mock conference:

Taylor's-HELP Model United Nations Mock Conference (THMUNC)

Date: 11th of March 2010
Day: Thursday
Time: 2.30pm-5.30pm
Dresscode: Formal
Venue: Taylor's College Subang Jaya Campus

Topics:
1)Addressing climate change in the context of national sustainable development strategies
2)Prevention of Outbreak of War In Darfur

Please revert to us as soon as possible on whether you wish to participate. Those whom are interested, as for starters, just research on those 2 topics. I will brief you as far as I can go before this mock conference.

Then there is the HELPMUNC 2010. This is not a mock conference, it is HELP University College's second conference ever held. I would also encourage for you to participate in this conference as after you have experienced the THMUNC, it should not be a problem for you. Certificates would of course be given after attending this 3 days span conference, of learning, discussing, meeting new people, gaining new insights and all. I would assure you that it would make a memorable experience! Besides, I would pledge myself to assist you at the conference in any way I can.

Here are the details as of now:

HELPMUNC 2010

Dates: 26th, 27th and 28th of March 2010
Day: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Time: to be confirmed
Dresscode: Formal
Fee: to be confirmed
Venue: HELP University College Main Campus

Topics:
to be confirmed

Topics have not been announced just yet, but I do still need to know whether you are interested as soon as possible. As, the earlier you apply for a delegation. You get better countries. I know this is so un-UN like but people always want good countries like France and such. You will understand why when you participate in the conferences!

So, join join join! If you have any friends whom are not already in the club and wish to join, they are open to it as well!

E-mail us at tlcmun@gmail.com to apply or for any inquiries.

Regards,

Audrey Ser

Welcome to TLCMUN! What is MUN?

The Taylor's Lakeside Campus Model United Nations (TLCMUN) is a sister club of The Taylor's Subang Jaya Model United Nations (TAYMUN) and Taylor's College Sri Hartamas Model United Nations (TCSHMUN).

Model United Nations is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and other multilateral bodies. In Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to debate current issues on the organization's agenda.

While playing their roles as ambassadors, student "delegates" make speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the Model UN conference rules of procedure - all in the interest of mobilizing "international cooperation" to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world.

Before playing out their ambassadorial roles in a Model UN simulation, students research the issue that their committee will address. Model UN participants learn how the international community acts on its concerns about topics including peace and security, human rights, the environment, food and hunger, economic development and globalization.

Model UN delegates also look closely at the needs, goals and foreign policies of the countries they will represent at the event. The insights they gain from their exploration of history, geography, culture, economics and science contribute to the authenticity of the simulation when the role playing gets under way. The delegates' in-depth knowledge of their countries guarantees a lively and memorable experience.
