The United Nations Association of Malaysia (UNAM) – a voluntary organisation which has consultative status with the United Nations through the World Federation of UN Associations (WFUNA) – had invited the Taylor's Lakeside Campus Model United Nations to this prestigious event.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato' Sri Haji Mohd. Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, had graciously agreed to deliver a key-note address, entitled, “Malaysia in a Globalised World: Prospects and Challenges” at a Dinner held on Monday 1st November 2010, at 8.00 p.m. at the Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, the Prime Minister did not attend this event. Thus, the key-note address was delivered by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.
In his address, the Prime Minister addressed the key issues on the international agenda confronting the world and Malaysia in the era of globalisation and present his thoughts on what constitutes Malaysia’s perspective relating to these challenges and taking into account its pro-active role within ASEAN and the responsibilities that Malaysia had shouldered in the recent past as Chair of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), among others.
The dinner event, which is also in commemoration of United Nations Day, which falls on 24 October, was attended by captains of industry, diplomats, heads of Government agencies, academicians, and heads of NGOs.
